Jewellery
Peter
and Michelle Jessen’s designs celebrate the grace and power of
wild animals and nature as well as the spiritual essence of what it
is to be human. Other designs show the transformation – animal
– spirit – human, that is the focus of native myth, world
mythology and lore. |

Lavers Design Cam
Lavers has been a professional artist, designer and craftsman since
2002. His work is primarily in wood, but he incorporates other mediums
into his pieces – such as guitar hardware in his “Tables
in the Key of C”. His line of artistic pepper mills has become
his most popular work. His designs have been featured in enRoute magazine,
Toro Magazine, LouLou magazine and Global and City TV! |

Since 1974, Shelli
and Mark Eisenberg of Delicate Touch have been making inspired sterling
silver and gold jewellery. This year at Summerfolk they will be displaying
numerous new nature designs, and celtic necklaces and rings; many featuring
stone inlays or coloured gems. |

Drumbeat
Poi
Diana Lythia and
Jimmie Griffin have been entertaining, manufacturing poi and drums and
facilitating workshops over the past two and eight years respectively.
They have been creating together for the past year. Colorful fabric
poi whirling at mystical speeds flirt with the natural beat of personally
handcrafted drums. Be inspired. |

Wood Products
Edgar Werner has
been making wooden combs for about two years now. Their main feature
is that they do not generate static electricity, but we think people
buy them more as a piece of unique, functional, folk art. These beautiful,
collectible pieces are made mostly from wood salvaged from local tree
removal companies. |

Nadia Buwalda has been drawn to nature’s shapes, forms and colours.
Her partner, Matt McMillan, has had his fair share of experience in

Goddard
Design
Dennis Goddard is
a graduate of the University of Canterbury, College of Art in Kent,
England. Dennis has worked as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator for
firms in Toronto and Montreal before opening his own Design Studio.
He has designed a number of stamps for the Federal Government. Dennis
resides in London and teaches Graphic Design and Illustration at Fanshawe
College. He is also involved in teaching Calligraphy, Water Colour and
Oil Painting courses for the City of London. |

Emily Leonard
first learned about henna while studying in Spain and started her business
in Sauble Beach in the summers. She custom designs and hand paints henna
tattoos using 100% natural home-mixed henna paste at folk festivals
year-round. Emily specializes in henna body painting for hafla belly
dancing parties, weddings, pregnancies and other special occasions.
Emily believes henna tattooing is a beautiful way of expressing herself
creatively in a non-permanent form. |

Gunna Leather Goods
Leather
is Karen’s medium! She has been working with all varieties from
nappas to harness leather for 20 years. She designs and constructs a
large number of leather products from unique purses and shoulder bags
to blotters and custom-made brief cases. As a “women’s”
designer, her products are often soft and elegant but careful attention
is paid to durability and function. Anyone who buys a Karen Gunna product
is guaranteed to have it for years. |

Karen’s handcrafted
jewellery is very colourful and fun. She works with Sterling silver,
semiprecious stones and Niobium, a very rare, pure, metal which is naturally
hypoallergenic and when anodized produces a rainbow of colours. Karen
graduated from the Design Department of the Ontario College of Art in
1985. |

a self-taught artisan who designs and creates rustic, unique Garden
Sculptures. Some are used as habitats for birds, bats and butterflies

decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a potter.
His studio-store is located in Toronto’s West end. In addition
to the Toronto location, Paul sells his work at fine craft shows and

Mie Shimizu was
born in Tokyo, educated at various art schools in California and New
York. Started showing at craft shows six years ago with handmade soaps,
three years ago changing to her current products of handmade bags and
matching tops. She also enjoys silkscreen printing in art form, photography,
bookbinding, papermaking, Japanese calligraphy and sewing hats and clothes. |

You Know
Fifteen years ago,
Ken Pettigrew had a friend who needed a cane but was “way too
young” to be that old. He made him a cane that was elegant and
eccentric and that allowed him to get the support he needed without
losing his identity and self-confidence. Ken is a self-taught artisan,
working in wood to make canes, carvings and various kitchen utensils.
He works out of his studio in Grimsby, and sells throughout Canada and
The United States. |
